_________________________ Speech & Language

Our speech and language therapy team is made up of a joint model between an independent provider, Blossom Tree Speech and Language ltd and the local NHS provision.
Miss E. Jones
Blossom Tree Speech &
Language Therapist
Miss W. Lam
NHS Speech &
Language Therapist

The therapists work collaboratively and have developed a tiered model of provision to meet the needs of the children at Riverside Bridge school who have complex communication needs and many of whom have a diagnosis of ASC and are early communicators.

Universal provision – Communication training

The Speech and Language Therapist team delivers weekly workshops to staff where whole school communication approaches and communication training needs are discussed.
Regularly twilight and whole school INSET training is also provided.

Targeted provision – Language and communication plans

Each class has a designated therapist who works with the class team to support the communication needs of the pupils.
The therapist and class team devise pupil specific speech, language and communication support plans which include targets and strategies to progress core areas of development such as attention, use and understanding of language, interaction skills and social communication. Interventions such as Lego Therapy and Colourful Semantics are targeted through specific training and workshops to support the class teams to integrate language and communication provision into the curriculum.

Specialist provision – direct interventions from the therapy team, in conjunction with the adults working with the pupil

Where specified in pupils Education, Health and Care plans, pupils work 1:1 or in small groups with a therapist directly. Adults working with the pupils will maintain and modelled strategies and support with generalisation outside of direct therapy.
The therapy team monitors progress of pupils on a regular basis. Termly progress is shared with parents in order to celebrate success. The therapy team also participate in the statutory annual review process.
