The annual Barking and Dagenham Sports Awards were held at Barking Town Hall on Wednesday 2nd March 2016. There were many awards up for grabs on the night with many of B&D finest athletes in attendance. Andreya was nominated and successfully won Sports Person of the Year for 2015. This is an absolutely incredible achievement for someone who is still only 15 years old. She was nominated for her achievements in three sports: handball, football and most impressively athletics. Listed below are some of Andreya’s amazing achievements over the last year.
Football:
Andreya continues to train with and play for West Ham academy where she has had a very successful season. Her team won the league and from what I have heard she had a massive role to play in this. When she plays football at school it is clear what a talent she is.
Handball:
Andreya represented the school handball team last year and was part of the team that won the borough competition. Further success ensured that the team reached the London finals where they narrowly missed out on a place in the South Finals finishing runners up. The success on this team led to Andreya being selected to represent Barking and Dagenham at the London Youth Games and again was a stand-out player on the day as the team progressed well throughout the competition.
Athletics:
Andreya trains with and competes for on a regular basis with Newham and Essex Beagles. Her regular training outside of school has also helped massively with success in the more local area. At the Borough Athletics Competition Andreya walked away with three medals. She won a gold in the 200m and the Long Jump as well as a silver in the 4x100m relay. The success at the Borough Athletics Competition saw Andreya selected to represented Barking and Dagenham at the Essex Athletics Championships. In this competition, Andreya came away with a bronze medal in the Long Jump. For her club Newham and Essex Beagles, Andrey has had a superb season. She competed in the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games at the Olympic Stadium where she ran in the relay. Her team performed well in the athletics league and because of their successes they earned promotion. This season, Andreya has broadened the range of events she competes in and has competed in the relay, sprint events, long jump and occasionally shot put.
