The first week of March proved to be a very successful week for the athletes of year 7. 3 wins out of 3 really highlighted the talent that we have on offer in year 7. It is also the product of hours of hard work these students have put in and is exactly what they deserve after being so committed to after school clubs all year.
The victories began with the year 7 boys tag rugby team. This was a first for Riverside School. It was the first ever rugby fixture that the school has played. The boys have been superb at turning out for training every week and have shown real dedication to the cause. With newly named captain Max Davis ready to lead his team the boys could not have been more excited to represent their school and they did this in style, running out 5-0 winners against Jo Richardson.
Next up was the U13 girls football team against Robert Clack. The girls arrived at Robert Clack with 9 players to take on the 11 players that Clack provided. The girls did not let this small challenge get the better of them. After an extremely close and tense first half, Riverside got a fantastic start to the second half. Captain Soraia Delgado played a superb through ball to Olivia who tucked the ball away neatly in the bottom corner. After goalkeeper Abiola pulled off multiple fine saves in the dying minutes the girls held on for a 1-0 vicotry.
The final year 7 fixture of the week was the boys basketball team who again were playing their first match of the season. They came up against Eastbury in what was always going to be a close encounter. The game started very evenly but Eastbury began to pull away. Going into the final quarter the boys were down 10-4 but their heads did not go down. Some fine finishes from Max Davis and Ignas clawed the game back to 10-10. Samuel was then fouled whilst shooting which meant he had 2 free shots. He made the first shot which gave Riverside an 11-10 lead. For the last minutes the boys battled hard and played their hearts out and they held on to take the victory. A superb week for year 7, congratulations to everyone involved!
