On Thursday 26th November, 15 Riverside students got the opportunity to visit the World renowned Oxford University (Wadham College). To start the day off, students took part in a session where they were informed on university life, as well as decisions they should be taking at this age which would eventually lead to having a place at one of Russell universities, as well as being informed of the range of courses available at university level education, as well as costs. During the visit, students also participated in a university style lecture in a choice of human health or British history both taught by Oxford’s own PHD holders. The students continued with a complete tour of the campus by some of the university’s own undergraduate students. This aided the students in learning more about the university, its origins, values and traditions. This led up to a Q&A section with the undergraduates, where the students got to ask any questions about university to help their understanding with transitioning to high education in the future. The day ended with a visit to the Natural History Museum, where they took part in a session on animal fossils, where they got to learn how the fossils were preserved and they got to see live displays of many different species of animals.
All in all a very fun and informative day had all round!
