This year, ten year 9 students, fourteen year 8 students and six year 7 students from Riverside School participated in the UKMT Maths Challenge, a national competition where participants compete with other students across the UK by applying their mathematical knowledge to solve 25 challenging multiple choice questions.
The participants spent several weeks preparing for the challenge and discussed and solved many tricky and unusual maths problems by applying their knowledge from maths lessons, ideas from real life and their intuition.
The year 9 students competed in the Intermediate Challenge for students in Year 11 and below, and achieved very good results including two bronze certificates.
The year 8 and year 7 students participated in the Junior Challenge for students in Year 8 and below, and achieved excellent results including four bronze certificates, four silver certificates and two gold certificates. Furthermore Uniqueka Silvester, who achieved the highest score, was also invited to participate in the Junior Kangaroo, a follow-on round to the Junior Challenge to which only the best participants from the Junior Challenge are invited.
Congratulations and well done to all who participated for their hard work and their excellent results! We look forward to the next round of exciting mathematical challenges next year.
