This month Riverside has been celebrating Black History Month. Year 9 students researched and produced posters explaining the work of some of the most influential men and women in the civil rights movement. In addition to this the final assembly of this half term was dedicated to celebrating Black History Month. Our GCSE group and school choir combined to sing two songs linked to the theme of slavery and African culture, and a group of Year 9 students performed a short dramatic piece depicting the impact that slavery had in Africa, which they wrote themselves. Congratulations and thank you to all the students who were involved in celebrating Black History Month this year.
Comments from Councillor Carpenter about Black History Month assembly:
“The whole event was very moving. I loved the spiritual and Nigerian song, and the wonderful dance performance. You have very talented pupils and must be proud of them.”
