Last Friday, a group of year 7 students embarked on an exciting, educational trip to the British Museum and Chinatown. This trip aimed to broaden their understanding of Chinese culture and history, and it turned out to be a resounding success.
The day began at the British Museum, where the main focus was two rooms displaying a vast collection of Chinese artefacts. Reading the introduction of the artefacts and using the booklet to guide them, students were provided a unique glimpse into the rich heritage and artistic achievements of ancient China. The students were captivated by the intricate pottery, delicate porcelain, and ancient scrolls, which showcased the remarkable craftsmanship of past Chinese civilizations.
After immersing themselves in the treasures of the Chinese artefacts, the group ventured out to explore London’s vibrant Chinatown. During lunchtime, the students were treated to a feast of delicious Chinese delicacies in a traditional restaurant. They savoured the flavours of bubble tea, aromatic stir-fries, and mouth-watering glass noodles, expanding their palates and embracing new culinary experiences.
Throughout the day, the students’ enthusiasm was evident, and their understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture deepened. This successful trip to the British Museum and Chinatown proved to be an invaluable experience for the students. It allowed them to connect with ancient Chinese civilizations, explore cultural diversity, and foster a sense of global citizenship. They returned to school with a newfound interest in history, art, and international relations, as well as a greater understanding of the Chinese community in their own city.
