Riverside School now ranks as the Barking and Dagenham top provider of the Duke of Edinburgh Award, with 38 awards achieved in 2017/18. 117 students started the award and will achieve it in 2019, with 19 students will achieve the prestigious Gold Award in 2019 which only three students in the entire borough were awarded this year. Superb work by Mr Blandford who has led the huge success of this award resulting in 255% growth.
Participation in DofE programmes develops the whole person – the mind, body and soul – in an environment of social interaction and teamwork. It can provide participants with new skills, abilities and experiences that can be drawn on and be advantageous to them in later life, both in further and higher education and employment, and enriching applications when applying for these positions.
As DofE programmes are personalised, participants have ownership over their DofE programmes, can enjoy unique yet shared experiences, discover and follow their passions, learn their strengths and gain a sense of achievement and recognised accreditation for their commitment to them.
