On Thursday 20th November 19 GCSE and BTEC PE students headed to the University of East London for a Sports Science Taster Day. The morning was spent seeing what the pupils already knew about university life and also finding out facts about UEL. This really opened the pupils eyes to what they could do at university and what they needed to do to get there. Pupils were then given the opportunity to use the state of the art facilities at the UEL Sports Dock where they undertook an intense circuit training session followed by a game of basketball and football. The pupils worked extremely hard which impressed the university staff and very much earned them their lunch break!!
The pupils spent the first part of the afternoon having a tour of the university campus and despite the trek up 6 flights of university accommodation the pupils appreciated the views they got over the Thames and into central London. After seeing all the facilities that were on offer including an extremely large library many pupils were sold on university life with several stating they would love to attend UEL. The final part of the day was spent having a lecture from a member of university staff about leadership. In this lecture pupils created and filmed their very own haka…look out for the videos coming soon!!!
The day was a great success with a strong link now being created between UEL and Riverside which will provide us with many more of these fantastic opportunities!
