When Gospel Came to the Empire

On Saturday the 24th of September, Riverside Singer kicked off Black History Month celebration by performing ‘Freedom Song‘ a work that tells the story of the Fisk Jubilee Singers’ story and their journey from documenting the work song/spiritual from the plantations to performing for dignitaries across the globe including Queen Victoria.

11 students from Riverside took part with Vox Holloway, Hackney Empire singer, soloists and a jazz quintet lead by Harvey Brough in a beautiful 2-hour celebration of the power of song.

What a great way to celebrate Black History month!
